Tissot Automatic Watches – Swiss Mechanical Watchmaking
Tissot automatic watches combine self-winding mechanical movements with a broad choice of designs, case sizes and technical features. The current Zeitlounge selection includes classic and contemporary automatic watches as well as sport-oriented models, making it possible to compare different Tissot collections and styles in one place.
Materials and specifications vary by reference. Depending on the model, Tissot automatic watches feature 316L stainless steel cases, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, stainless steel bracelets or leather and rubber straps. Water-resistance ratings also differ between models and should be checked in the specifications of the individual watch. Tissot watches are covered by a two-year international warranty.
How a Tissot Automatic Watch Works
An automatic watch uses a mechanical movement that is wound by the motion of the wearer’s wrist. This movement causes a rotor inside the calibre to rotate and transfer energy to the mainspring. The stored energy keeps the watch running when it is no longer being worn, with the available running time determined by the movement’s power reserve.
Unlike a quartz watch, an automatic watch does not require a battery to power its movement. If it remains unworn for longer than its available power reserve, however, the watch will stop and may need to be wound and reset before it is worn again. A watch winder can keep an automatic watch running while it is not being worn, but it is not generally required for normal operation.
Features of Tissot Automatic Watches
The exact specifications depend on the collection and reference. Depending on the model, Tissot automatic watches may offer:
- Swiss automatic mechanical movements
- power reserves of up to 80 hours with selected Powermatic 80 movements
- scratch-resistant sapphire crystal
- 316L stainless steel cases
- stainless steel bracelets as well as leather or rubber straps
- water resistance suited to different types of everyday or sporting use
- transparent case backs on selected references
- Nivachron™ balance springs on selected models for increased resistance to magnetic fields
- chronograph functions on selected automatic chronographs
Tissot Powermatic 80 – Up to 80 Hours of Power Reserve
Powermatic 80 is one of the key movements in Tissot’s automatic range. It provides a power reserve of up to 80 hours, allowing a fully wound watch to continue running for more than three days without being worn. Powermatic 80 movements are used across several Tissot collections, including selected Le Locle, Chemin des Tourelles and Seastar models. These collections and Powermatic-equipped watches are also represented in the current Zeitlounge Tissot selection.
The precise features differ between individual Powermatic models. Selected references use Tissot’s patented Nivachron™ balance spring, which is designed to provide increased resistance to magnetic fields. Other characteristics such as case size, water resistance, crystal, bracelet or strap and additional functions depend on the individual watch.
Le Locle, Chemin des Tourelles and Seastar Automatic Watches
Tissot Le Locle is characterised by a traditional dress-watch aesthetic and is available in automatic versions, including Powermatic models. Chemin des Tourelles combines classic styling with contemporary automatic movements; current Powermatic 80 references offer up to 80 hours of power reserve and are available with features such as sapphire crystal and Nivachron™ balance springs.
For a sportier alternative, the Seastar collection includes automatic Powermatic models designed with higher levels of water resistance than Tissot’s classic dress watches. The collections therefore provide distinctly different options for customers choosing between a classic, versatile or sport-oriented Tissot automatic watch.
